Nurse Advice Line Available to New Parents in NM

A couple of weeks ago our office went through an audit of sorts by one of the insurance companies we're contracted with.  These are usually a bit unnerving as they inspect our office to make sure we meet all safety and ADA codes and that we're following all the regulations. We've never had a problem so I'm not sure why it creates a bit of anxiety. I suppose it's just the fact that we're being "graded".  We passed with flying colors, by the way.  But as the visit was finishing up the reviewer and i began to visit about our specialty focus in counseling for reproductive health issues.  The nurse/reviewer had a long history of working with postpartum mom's and shared a wonderful resource with me that I was not aware of.

Whenever I'm alerted to a service that I think is really valuable I can't wait to spread the word far and wide.  So, in case you aren't aware, there is a wonderful non-profit organization in NM called Nurse Advice New Mexico. Their mission is to:

  • Provide New Mexicans access to confidential and professional healthcare advice
  • Coordinate referrals with other health service groups
  • Facilitate referrals to behavioral health services
  • Provide telephone call relief for rural and urban health care providers

They have a 24/7 phone line that allows you to speak with a registered nurse that can answer questions and provide guidance on health and illness topics. The nurse line can help you with decisions regarding self-care at home or when it is best to go to the doctor or hospital.  The phone number is 877-725-2552.

For new parents this could be an invaluable phone number to have and may help you decide if you can manage an issue at home or if you need to take the baby in for medical care. If you have any great resources that you want to share with us please email us at inquiry@wallin-luna.com.
